4 Series similar to GoT that should be on your watchlist

GAME OF THRONES

Game Of Thrones
That’s the Thrones for which all the characters are playing the game. And that is Ned Stark sitting on the Throne.
source – amazon.com

Where to watch the series – Hotstar

Seasons/episode – 8/73

Genre – Action, Fantasy, Historical, Thriller, War, Drama, Politics, Nudity (and lots of it, so kids stay away) and Horror

If you haven’t watched the series “Game of Thrones” yet (“You know nothing, Jon Snow”), stop reading the blog and binge-watch GoT right now. It’s the best series ever created.

Game of Thrones is based on the novel series ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ by the American novelist George R. R. Martin, not completely, the writer of the series made some changes in the series(which they still regret).

GoT completed its final season (8th season) in May 2019. It has phenomenal VFX, you might start believing in Dragons.

But if you have already watched GoT and you can’t wait for the Game of Thrones spin-off series (which will not be airing soon), you might like to watch these similar series.

1. THE WITCHER

The Witcher
Yes, that’s SUPERMAN with long white hairs and a sword.
source – Netflix

Where to watch – Netflix

Seasons/episodes – 1/8

Genre – Action, Fantasy, Horror, Magic, Romance, comedy, some good music, and yes of course nudity.

The Witcher is based on the video game which is based on the Polish novels ‘The Witcher’ by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski and Polish comic artist Przemysław Truściński, two guys whose name most of us can’t pronounce.

And yes the lead character is Superman, Henry Cavill. Imagine Superman in warrior’s armor, long white hairs, with a long sword, and color-changing eyes (yellow to black), looks like a vampire from Twilight, if you see anyone with a similar characteristic that is not Superman, that’s Geralt of Rivia. And of course, he loves his horse named Roach, what a great name to name a horse.

Synopsis: The witcher Geralt, a mutated monster hunter, struggles to find his place in a world in which people often prove more wicked than beasts.

2. KINGDOM

Kingdom
Yes that is a zombie running
source – Netflix

Where to watch – Netflix

Seasons/episodes – 2 / 12

Genre – Action, Mythology, Horror, Fantasy, Thriller, Drama, and Mystery.

Kingdom is a South Korean series (Netflix original). Based on the book ‘The Kingdom of the Gods’ by Kim Eun-hee and Yang Kyung-il. If you have already watched GoT, Kingdom is more focused on the White Walkers, but their white walkers are more like zombies from resident evil.

Synopsis : The deceased king rises and a mysterious plague begins to spread; the prince must face a new breed of enemies to unveil the evil scheme and save his people.

3. THE LAST KINGDOM

The Last Kingdom
Uhtred Ragnarsson
source – Netflix

Where to watch – Netflix

Number of seasons/episodes – 4/27

Genre – History, Action, Mythology, Thriller, War, Drama, Blood and dead people (if that’s what you want to see, but later see a psychiatrist)

The show is based on Bernard Cornwell’s ‘The Saxon Stories’ series novel. It has everything that you love in Game of Thrones (except nudity so that’s a bummer), eye-gouging, beheading, stabbing, and crucifixion, amongst other things, is all here for your pleasure. There are a lot of bone-crunching battles with ever so satisfying clings of swords. So it’s worth it.

Synopsis: During their invasion of England, the Danes capture Uhtred, a young successor of Saxon earldom, and raise him as their own. Years later, Uhtred’s loyalties are put to the test by the Danes.

Honorable mentions –

If you are interested in movies, you should watch the trilogy of The Lord of The Rings and it’s prequel trilogy The Hobbit.

4. VIKINGS

Vikings
Yeah, that bald man is Ragnar Lothbrok’s son.
Source – History.com

Where to watch – Netflix

Seasons/episodes – 6/79

Genre – Action, History, Drama, Mythology, War, Nudity (apparently most of these shows have it) and some bloody fights

Last but not the least Vikings, is based on true events of the lives of Ragnar Lothbrok and his family and how they all rise up … (spoiler)

It has some really brutal scenes, and it’s not funny at all because you will be watching intestines, lungs, hearts, and many more organs not where they are supposed to be, yes Vikings didn’t really care that much they all were very violent loving people (or should I say monsters).

Synopsis : Ragnar Lothbrok, a legendary Norse hero, is a mere farmer who rises up to become a fearless warrior and commander of the Viking tribes with the support of his equally ferocious family.

This basically means that you have really great shows on Netflix, but not the best ‘Game of Thrones’.

    1. The United States Netflix doesn’t stream Vikings but there are two alternative streaming subscription options. Both Hulu and Amazon carry Vikings.
